You can play this drum several ways for multiple sounds. You can create the sounds of the waves breaking on the shore, you can play it like a deff, you can shake it like a Shakere and you can beat it like a shaman drum. To create the ocean sounds, hold the drum by the frame, with the heads horizontal like a serving tray. The roll your wrists so the drum gently tilts in all directions. The beads inside will roll over the bottom head like water rolling over the shore. Try different speeds for different sounds. Stop and start suddenly to create crashing wave sounds.
Nash Tavewa and his family are masters of traditional Zapotec pottery, clay flutes and whistles, and ceremonial figurines. They have descended from centuries of potters and have no reason to doubt that their ancestors were potters in pre-Columbian times.
Nash belongs to the Bene Walash (Zapotec) Culture from the Sierra North of Oaxaca, Mexico. His flute journey began as a child. As a kid, his parents made him small cane flutes, clay whistles and drums to play with. Surrounded by family artists, he learned to make his own flutes and whistles.
In 1998, he met Guillermo Martinez a renowned Native American Flute and Drum maker. For 4 years, he apprenticed under Guillermo Martinez where he learned to make Native American Flutes and Drums. Now that he has mastered the craft he is making them for you.

This whistle has a beautiful, warm tone and is very responsive. I have used a variety of whistles (including other Kerry whistles), and this one is my favorite to play. While recording my latest album, I needed a whistle in this key pretty quickly, and Lark in the Morning had this delivered to me within a few days. I highly recommend this instrument, and Lark in the Morning is a fantastic place to purchase from with excellent customer service.

I already play a mountain lap dulcimer, but this one gives the instrument a whole different dimension to playing. Really beautiful craftsmanship. Thus isn’t a toy, but a lovely wooden instrument. Very easy to play!

Multifacsited approach to something fun to do!

Plays like a dream. I have MS and am no longer able to play guitar, but this uke let's me play songs again and sing. I had no idea how much I'd missed having music in my body. Thanks, Lark!

I love these little hand carved wood whistles from Brazil
